A woman dressed in a burka tried to rob a San Diego-area bank on Thursday.

FBI agents and San Diego police officers were investigating the attempted robbery that occurred at 6 p.m. Thursday inside a Wells Fargo in National City.

Witnesses reported a woman wearing a maroon-colored burka and heavy eye makeup left the Highland Avenue location.

Surveillance images released by officials showed the woman at the teller station. Officials said she handed the teller a note with her demands.

Agents told NBC 7 the teller alerted a co worker then hid.

The suspect waited a few seconds then left without any cash.

Investigators say the woman left the property on foot before San Diego police officers arrived.

Police described her as a woman in her late 20s, early 30s with olive complexion standing 5-feet, 6-inches tall. She was believed to be wearing light colored or white shoes officials said.
