Police Arrest 10 Drunk Drivers

San Diego Police Department arrested 10 people during Independence Day weekend as a result of multiple DUI Checkpoints set up throughout the city.

Officers from Chula Vista, National City, Coronado, San Diego Police Departments, as well as the Sheriff's department, joined forces to conduct a DUI patrol throughout the South Bay.

Throughout the holiday weekend, nearly 3,300 vehicles passed through the various checkpoints.  Ten drivers were arrested for DUI and 35 vehicles were impounded for drivers without valid licenses. Another 23 drivers received various citations. Nearly 100 motorists were detained for further evaluation of their sobriety.

Funding for the checkpoints was provided to SDPD by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Last year’s Fourth of July weekend saw 270 DUI arrests in San Diego, according to californiaavoid.org.
