Authorities looking to arrest a 50-year-old man Coronado man for violating his probation ended up with more than they came for when they found 22 marijuana plants on the man’s property during Imperial Beach warrant sweep Friday.

James Duff was taken into custody at his Coronado home in the 600 block of 8th Street by authorities that were there because he had violated his probation for a DUI, said Melissa Aquino Public Affairs Officer in a media release.

As authorities proceeded to arrest him for his previous offence, they found a collection of marijuana plants growing on his back porch that they estimated was worth $35,000 at street value. Officers reportedly found more growing in Duff's garage during the search.

The Sheriff’s department conducted the warrant sweep that lasted from 5 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and ended with 15 people arrested and a total of 20 misdemeanor warrants were cleared, said Aquino.

Duff and the rest of the suspects were taken to the San Diego County Jail.

Duff will appear before a judge on July 15 at the Downtown courthouse for the DUI case.
