Poseidon Water said that IDE Technologies — Poseidon’s contractor and plant operator — has selected Vista-based Protec Arisawa and Dow Water & Process Solutions to provide the pressure vessels and reverse osmosis membranes for the Carlsbad Desalination Project.
Protec designs and manufactures pressure vessels for membrane filtration systems. Dow will provide the membranes.
The membranes act as the filter that separates salt and other impurities from water molecules to create drinking water. The pressure vessels house these membranes.
Poseidon Water has made an effort to involve as many local companies in the Carlsbad Desalination Project as possible, and the selection of the Protec continues that commitment, Poseidon said.
“Protec and Dow are recognized world leaders in reverse osmosis technology,” said Poseidon Vice President Peter MacLaggan. “We are pleased to partner with such reputable innovators in the industry to provide this critical technology for the Carlsbad Desalination Project.”
IDE Technologies, has extensive experience developing, engineering and operating advanced desalination facilities, with 400 IDE designed systems in operation, Poseidon said.
According to Poseidon, the desalination project is infusing $350 million in the local economy and supporting an estimated 2,500 jobs in the desalination, engineering, construction and other services industries. The desalination plant and 10-mile pipeline are scheduled to be complete and operational late 2015.
