Two separate brush fires burning near a Vista freeway were a threat to homes in the area, firefighters said.

The Vista Fire Department requested a second-alarm response for the fires on the westbound SR-78 between Sycamore Ave. and Mar Vista Dr. Monday at about 7:40 p.m..

The fires reached approximately 3 acres each before firefighters knocked it down at 8 p.m. Homes were no longer in danger, but fire personnel expected to be on the scene for some time for mop-up duties.

No evacuations were ordered and no one was injured.
