The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians is considering an expansion to its hotel and casino on its reservation near Alpine.

The issue goes before the San Diego County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 24, a county official confirmed. Supervisors will then consider what sort of environmental mitigation Viejas must provide for the project.

The existing hotel, opened in March 2013, has 128 rooms.

Viejas said it wants to add approximately 128 rooms. It spelled out its project in a tribal environmental impact report prepared in April and released by the county.

The Viejas casino currently has 2,000 slot machines.

The tribe inked a new compact with Gov. Jerry Brown on Aug. 12. Like most other tribes, Viejas pays part of its revenue to the state government. The new compact converts the tribe’s fixed payment into a percentage-based payment.
