Police Seek Driver Who Walked Away from India Street Hit and Run

A 61-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in the 3700 block of India Street Saturday night, San Diego police confirm.

She had just finished dinner with her husband at a nearby restaurant and was walking across the street when she was hit by a gold Infinity QX4 around 8:42 p.m.

The suspect, who was wearing a black shirt and jacket, stopped his car in the street and left on foot southbound on India Street. He is described as 5-foot 9, 170 pounds with short hair and a goatee.

An employee at a gas station across the street described the startling collision.

"I was outside with a customer and I heard a loud bang," David Ericksson said. "It sounded like a car hitting a car. It was enough to knock her, as far as I could tell, airborne into her vehicle."

Ericksson told NBC 7 that the driver got out and checked on the woman and then walked away.

Elaine Dolphin works with Ericksson at the gas station. She said she was also hit by a car on the same block a few months ago.

"It's a horrible death intersection," Dolphin said. "It's crazy. This is crazy right here. It's deathly."

The victim was taken to the hospital with a broken pelvis. Her injuries are non-life-threatening.

San Diego Police Traffic Division is investigating.
