Man Shot to Death at El Cajon Motel

One person was killed in a shooting at a motel in El Cajon Wednesday evening, police confirmed.

El Cajon police were called to the Villa Serena Motel located at 771 El Cajon Blvd. just before 5 p.m. to investigate reports of gunfire.

Emergency crews were also requested for one patient suffering from a single gunshot wound, officials said. That victim was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the victim was a 25-year-old man, but have not released his name.

So far, no arrests have been made in connection to the crime. A Chevy truck seen leaving the motel turned out not to be related. Police are still looking for a motive.

"We're still investigating what led to the shooting occurring," said El Cajon Police Lt. Frank Lahave. "I can tell you the person, the victim who was shot, was visiting someone in the room. It was not registered to him."

The shooting happened inside a room on the second story of the motel.

Police are in the process of interviewing witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call El Cajon police at 619-579-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
