Search Suspended for Vessel Near Point Loma

The Coast Guard suspended the search for a vessel carrying two adults and three children in distress, Lifeguards said.

Authorities were searching for the white and green vessel Sunday around 2 p.m. off the tip of Point Loma, according to lifeguards.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection initially received a call from someone on the boat that it was taking on water.

By Sunday evening, the boat had still not been found. At about 6:20 p.m. Sunday, the search was suspended.

A Customs and Border Patrol boat crew, a Coast Guard helicopter crew and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew all responded and searched for the missing mariners. Harbor Police, the Fire Department and lifeguards assisted in the search.

Due to the report coming from a collect call, rescue crews have been unable to call the person in distress for more information.

An urgent marine broadcast was sent to mariners asking for help in finding the boaters in distress.

Anyone with information is urged to call 619-278-7033.
