Pursuit Ends in Crash, Power Outage

A woman suspected of driving under the influence hit a pedestrian and a power box in Lincoln Park

A high-speed vehicle pursuit in Lincoln Park Friday evening ended in a messy crash and consequent power outage.

San Diego police said they attempted to pull over a woman driving a four-door Toyota for speeding around 7:30 p.m, near 47th Street and Castana Street.

The woman, suspected of driving under the influence, failed to stop.

Officers pursued her for about five minutes through surface streets, at speeds of approximately 75 mph.

The pursuit ended in a collision on the 4800 block of Logan Avenue, where the driver struck a 27-year-old female pedestrian and a power box, according to police.

The driver then tried to flee the scene on foot, but was apprehended by officers a short time later.

The injured pedestrian was transported to the hospital with an open fracture to her arm. She told police she had tried to hide behind the power box when she saw the driver zooming down the street.

Power was knocked out for more than 1,000 residents in surrounding neighborhoods following the collision.

The suspect – who’s in her 40s – was booked into San Diego County Jail for felony failure to yield causing serious injury and felony driving under the influence.
