Vegetation Fire Sparks in Clairemont Canyon

Fire on Arroyo Lindo Ave.

A vegetation fire sparked up Monday afternoon in a canyon between homes in Clairemont.

The fire in the 5000 block of Arroyo Lindo Ave. started at about 4:45 p.m. Monday afternoon, according to the San Diego Fire Department.

No homes in the nearby neighborhoods were forced to evacuate, and none were threatened by the fire.

About 20 minutes after the fire started, most of the visible flames were knocked down.

By 5:30 p.m. fire department authorities said the fire was under control. About three dozen firefighters and one helicopter remained on scene to secure the area.

Firefighters do not know the cause of the fire at this time. They say because the canyon is very steep, the fire was difficult for ground grews to access. Without the help of the helicopter, the fire could hace threatened homes.
