Eight passengers were injured Thursday morning when a bus carrying 15 people drifted off the road and collided into a fence in San Diego’s Valley Center are, officials confirmed.
The accident occurred just after 9:30 a.m. in the 29000 block of Valley Center Road just east of Cole Grade Road, about five miles from Harrah’s Rincon Casino.
According to California Highway Patrol officials, a Harrah’s Rincon Casino tour bus that originated from Seal Beach, Calif., was on its way to Harrah’s Rincon Casino.
The bus driver – a 63-year-old man from Hawaiian Gardens, Calif. -- somehow lost control of the bus at a bend in the roadway in Valley Center, veered off the road and busted through a wooden fence. The bus came to rest in the front yard of a residence.
CHP officials say eight adult passengers were injured in the crash and transported to hospitals. The most serious injury was sustained by a female passenger, who suffered a possible broken femur.
CHP officials say the bus is operated by Silver State Coach, Inc., and makes several daily trips to Harrah’s Casino.
The driver told investigators he was traveling at the posted speed limit at the time of the crash, but the accident remains under investigation.
Officials spent Thursday morning processing the scene and interviewing other uninjured passengers who were in the bus at the time of the crash.
