USS Higgins Returns from Haiti

The USS Higgins returns home to San Diego after a humanitarian mission to Haiti.

The guided-missile destroyer, based at Naval Base San Diego, provided afloat logistical services for U.S. Coast Guard helicopters rendering aid after the 7.0 quake struck Haiti on Jan. 12.

In images taken by Navy personnel, sailors can be seen helping bandage wounds and moving people from triage to helicopters.

According to the command master chief, the crew helped rearrange a building later used as an operating room and a medical supply storage facility.

The ship is expected to return to San Diego just after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
