Students from across the state --  Berkeley to San Diego to Los Angeles -- gathered at UCSD to protest recent budget cuts Sunday.

The rally, part of the 21st annual "Students of Color Conference" on campus, was timely because the UC Board of Regents is scheduled to vote this week on a 32 percent tuition increase next year

"It's very important because a lot of these families who come from historically low income backrounds cannot afford," said Victor Sanchez with the UC Student Association. "It needs to be made known we are disproportionally affected, but we are the ones moving this forward."

At the end of the march, balloons were released to symbolize students of color and other disadvantaged communities who feel have been blocked from the UC system.
