Two Local Companies to Compete for Airfield Work for Navy

Coffman Specialties and Flatiron West will bid on airfield paving projects

The U.S. Navy needs a solid place to land its aircraft, and it has chosen two local contractors to make that possible.

Coffman Specialties Inc. of San Diego and Flatiron West Inc. of San Marcos are among six contractors that will be able to bid on airfield paving projects and related work in California and other western states. Task orders issued to the six companies during the next five years could collectively be worth up to $99 million, the Pentagon announced.

Jobs will include runways, taxiways, aprons and aircraft support areas as well as other areas intended for heavy duty vehicles.

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest of San Diego issued the six contracts after receiving 20 bids.
