Two Camp Pendleton Marines Killed in Afghanistan

Two Camp Pendleton Marine sergeants were killed Sunday in Afghanistan combat, the Pentagona announced Tuesday.

Sgt. Adan Gonzales Jr., 28, of Bakersfield, and Sgt. Joshua Robinson, 29, of Omaha, Neb., died in the country's dangerous Heimland province. They were both members of Camp Pendleton's 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment.

In March, the unit arrived in Heimland and replaced the 3rd Batallion, 5th Marine Regiment, which sustained the most combat casualities in the history of the Afghanistan war.

The 1/5 has lost at least 14 men so far.

Gonzales (pictured above) and Robinson were killed by small arms fire during a combat patrol, according to media partner The North County Times.
