Man Accused of Posing as “Twilight” Actor Faces Federal Child Pornography Charges

David LaVera, 33, is accused of posing as "Twilight" actor Kiowa Gordon, using the guise to lure a teenage girl in Iowa

A San Diego man accused of posing as an actor from the popular film franchise, “Twilight,” now faces federal child pornography charges.

David LaVera, 33, is expected in federal court in Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday on charges of sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography. Jasper County Sheriff John Halferty confirmed LaVera has been turned over to U.S. marshals.

LaVera, of San Diego, has already pleaded not guilty to charges in Iowa of sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of a minor, enticing a minor, carrying weapons and failure to have a valid driver's license.

LaVera was arrested on June 10 in Baxter, Iowa, after he posed as an actor from “Twilight” and allegedly tried to lure a 14-year-old girl into his car.

WHOtv, a Des Moines NBC affiliate, reported that LaVera pretended to be Hollywood actor Kiowa Gordon, known for his role as Embry Call in the “Twilight” movies. Posing as the star, LaVera began communicating with a teenage girl on social media.

LaVera went to Baxter in an attempt to lure the girl into his car, but a friend of the teen's mother stopped him, getting the girl out of his vehicle. WHOtv reported that LaVera sped off, but was caught and arrested by police minutes later. Police found two swords and several daggers in his car.

According to WHOtv, police had contact with LaVera before Tuesday's incident after he allegedly tried to lure another teen in Newton, Iowa.

In that case, the two became friends on social media and eventually met face-to-face. That teen also believed Lavera was a famous actor from "Twilight." The teen claimed LaVera talked her into sneaking out of her house and told her he wanted to kiss her.

The incident was reported to police, who told LaVera to stay away from children.

Prior to his arrest, LaVera’s act as a Hollywood movie star was so convincing that two schools fell for his trick.

Authorities said LaVera performed at two schools in Newton, Iowa, earlier this year, doing acrobatic stunts under the name of Kiowa Gordon, WHOtv reports. He’s also accused of secretly recording teens in a bathroom.

LaVera is scheduled to appear in federal court on Oct. 20.

Following LaVera's arrest in June, the real Kiowa Gordon took to Twitter to talk about the impostor and apologize to fans, tweeting:
