Is It Trash or Treasure?

What hidden gems are hiding at Goodwill?

To the Goodwill's store employees in Pacific Beach, a silver 3-foot golf trophy didn't seem like much, so they sent it over to their online department. On Tuesday, that 3-foot trophy sold for $1,800.

A buyer in Orange County purchased the trophy after a brief bidding war, said Goodwill San Diego spokesperson Sharon Corrigan. The buyer told Corrigan he plans to keep it for himself unless his wife says otherwise and then it may end up on the auction block again.

The trophy is the Johnny Miller 1974 Kaiser International Open Trophy. In 1974, Miller was the PGA Player of the Year. Miller now works as the lead golf commentator for NBC Sports.

"We had no idea," Corrigan said; to her and her staff it was just a trophy.

Thousands of items are donated every week to the Goodwill. Last year, more than 22 million pounds of donations were brought to the charity. The charity sells thousands of things on its website everyday. In May, a rare French vampire book from their online store sold for more than $1,000.

Right now, a visit to the website shows a lightly used Dooney and Bourke handbag for only $9.99; you can also bid on an authentic Coach bag for $46.
