A load of trash being carried by a garbage truck caught on fire in Mira Mesa Tuesday morning, officials said.

The waste fire sparked around 10:20 a.m. as the garbage truck was traveling on Black Mountain Road at Maya Linda Road.

Upon noticing the trash was on fire, police say the driver of the truck dumped the load onto the street. Firefighters rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze, which was quickly extinguished.

The cause of the trash truck fire is under investigation. As of 11:15 a.m., officials were working on loading up the waste on street and clearing the road. Police officers are providing traffic control in the area amid the clean-up efforts.
