Oceanside police spotted a man scaling the side of their department Wednesday night.

The man was looking for food and police arrested him for attempted burglary just after 10 p.m., said Fred Armijo with the Oceanside Police Department.

Police arrested Jesus Silvestre, a 19-year-old transient from Oceanside area after officers near by saw debris on the ground near the station.

Silvestre had knocked down several roofing tiles as he scaled the lattice on the side of the building. They then saw him on the roof and made the arrest before he gained access to the building.

Armijo said Silvestre may have diminished mental capacity.
