Trains Delayed in North County

Passengers on one Coaster train were stuck

Several trains in the North County were delayed Friday morning after they experienced mechanical problems.

Just after 9 a.m., an Amtrak train in Del Mar stopped on its tracks due to mechanical issues, according to a spokeswoman with the North County Transit District.

Another train was called in to push the train to its Downtown location. The passengers arrived at about 9:40 a.m. to the Santa Fe Depot.

About 20 minutes after the first train stopped, a Coaster train in Carlsbad stopped just north of Poinsettia.

One witness said passengers waited for over an hour inside the train, and weren't permitted to leave. The NCTD spokesperson said this was enforced for safety reasons.

The Coaster stopped also due to mechanical issues. The NCTD spokeswoman could not specify what the problems were.

Another train arrived and took the passengers to the Santa Fe Train Depot. The Coaster was taken to the mechanical yard to be investigated.
