Torrey Pines Prepares For Crazy Finish

Nearly three dozen players still have a chance to win

The South Course at Torrey Pines is going to be a wild place on Sunday.

There may not be many superstars left at the Farmers Insurance Open, but the field is filled with fantastic players who are in one of the tightest groups in recent memory.

At most golf tournaments, if you're within five shots of the lead when you tee off on Sunday, you can be legitimately considered "in the hunt." If that's the case, there are 31 players in the hunt with 18 holes to play at Torrey Pines (out of 74 guys who made the cut).

Harris English and J.B. Holmes are in the lead at 9-under par. A group of five players, including 2009 Farmers Insurance Open champion Nick Watney and 2009 U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, is one back at 8-under.

After that, there are five at 7-under, five at 6-under, four at 5-under, and 11 at 4-under. English started Saturday's round with a 2-shot cushion. Now he's in a battle royale for the top of the leaderboard, and he seems to be having a really good time with it.

"That's cool, having a lot of people like that," said English. "It shows how hard this golf course is, and the guys who are playing well are all bunched together. It's hard to run away with a lead at this golf course unless you're playing crazy good. It's going to be anyone's ball game tomorrow."

Barring another fog delay, play is scheduled to resume at 8:20 on Sunday morning. The final group tees off at 10:20 a.m.
