Toreros Earn First NIT Appearance

The Toreros earned a spot thanks in part to their strong showing in the WCC Tournament.

The Toreros nearly made it to the Big Dance thanks to an impressive run in the WCC Tournament. Their efforts instead landed them in the NIT.

San Diego will make its first-ever appearance in the National Invitational Tournament, earning an invite to face Memphis in the first round.

Sam Scholl's squad landed a six-seed in the tournament.

USD won three games in Las Vegas to get to the WCC semifinals. They lost to eventual champion Saint Mary's. The three wins got them to 21 on the season, the third highest win total in program history.

This marks another step for the program. Three seasons ago they finished with just nine wins. A year ago they got to 20 thanks to a strong run in the CIT. Now they have a chance to add to their win total in a prestigious postseason tournament.

The Toreros face off against the Tigers at 5 p.m. Pacific time Tuesday. The game will be televised on ESPN 3.
