Toreros Demolish the Dolphins

USD's football team beats up Jacksonville to extend PFL winning streak

The University of San Diego football program is not just the class of the Pioneer League.

The Toreros might have gotten too good for the Pioneer League.

USD went to Jacksonville and destroyed the Dolphins 63-10 on Saturday to run their PFL winning streak to 17 straight games. In their four conference games this season the Toreros are outscoring their opponents 180-61.

Toreros quarterback Anthony Lawrence had a heck of a day for himself. He completed 18 of 24 pass attempts for 268 yards, which is good but not spectacular. The number that pops out is he threw six touchdown passes, one shy of the program record held by Josh Johnson and Eric Rasmussen.

His first two scoring tosses went to wideout Nate Loya in the first quarter to put the Toreros on top 14-0. Justin Priest and Ross Dwelley also caught a pair of TD passes before the end of the 3rd quarter.

After that USD went to the ground and still couldn’t be stopped. Running back Jordan Charles took off on a beautifully blocked 63-yard touchdown run to make it 56-3. Reid Stinnett capped the scoring with a 7-yard TD run to give the Toreros their first 60-plus point game since 2007 when they beat Jacksonville 62-23.

USD heads back to Florida to play Stetson in another PFL tilt next week. Their next home game is on November 4 against Drake.
