Police say a Southern California couple took their 3-year-old son on a purse-snatching spree that ended when their car rammed a Murrieta squad car.

Twenty-five-year-old Garnett Junior Reid and his 20-year-old girlfriend Laquita Vonne Deville of Riverside County's Winchester area were arrested Wednesday and booked for investigation of robbery, child endangerment and elder abuse.

Lt. Dennis Vrooman says Reid stole purses from women in parking lots. One victim was an 85-year-old woman who was knocked to the ground and hospitalized with a head injury.

Deville drove the getaway car with the couple's 3-year-old son in the back seat.

Police spotted the vehicle, which led them on a high-speed chase that ended in Fallbrook when it crashed into a police cruiser.
