A toddler was pulled from the bottom of a backyard swimming pool in the South Bay Sunday.
The accident happened around 4:15 p.m. during a family get together at a home on Echo Ridge Court in Eastlake.
According to Chula Vista Police, family members thought the girl was inside the home, but after looking around, they found her at the bottom of the pool.
“It's an above ground pool,” said Lt. Don Redmond. “My understanding is that they didn’t think the two-year-old would be able to climb the ladder up to the pool.”
A 911 dispatcher gave family members instructions on how to perform CPR until paramedics could get there.
The child may have stopped breathing for as long as 10 minutes police said.
At last update, the girl was in critical condition at Rady Children's Hospital.
