Thousands Without Power in Pacific Beach After Transformer Explosion

Thousands were left without power in San Diego's Pacific Beach and Mission Bay neighborhoods are without power after a transformer explosion in the area. 

The explosion happened at approximately 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Rockaway Court, according to San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) officials. 

Crews found damage to a pole and in order to make the repair, the had to shut off power to 2,700 customers, said an SDG&E spokeswoman.

Approximately half of those customers had their power restored by 6 p.m., the estimated restore time. 

After the initial restore time, 1,510 customers were without power. The estimated restore time for those customers is 11 p.m. Click here to find the outage map for SDG&E customers.
