Thousands Walk in San Diego's Making Strides 2014

Thousands of San Diegans walked to help raise almost $700,000 in the fight against breast cancer, according to Making Strides officials.

Sunday’s walk in Balboa Park involving at least 6,054 participants and 611 teams, the charity reports on its website.

In all, $679,204.02 was raised according to the event's website.

“This is such an important event because it bring people together who are celebrating survivors and also grieving people they’ve lost,” said Kay Coleman with the American Cancer Society.

It’s the seventh year for the event that helps raise money for patient services, public education, patient advocacy, and research.

NBC 7 took part with a team of walkers and a booth to help support the cause.
