A thief grabbed the tip jar at a Yum Yum Doughnut shop in La Mesa Monday, getting away with about $10 in change.
An employee told La Mesa police officers that the suspect, who looked to be 16 to 20 years old, said he was sorry but that he had no money and needed the money inside the shop's tip jar.
The employee struggled with him briefly over the tips but the suspect eventually got away with the cash.
He was described as wearing black pants, black sweatshirt and a white bandana over his face.
