The wet days have arrived in San Diego.

A winter storm is expected to bring light rain across the county Wednesday although some areas will see brief downpours. There is also the chance of very light snow on Palomar Mountain and Mt. Laguna.

Rainfall started around 2 a.m. Wednesday. In Mission Beach, it continued all morning. There is standing water already on the streets near Belmont Park.

But this is only the beginning. Two more storms are festering from the Gulf of Alaska.

"Very heavy stuff up north,” said NBC San Diego weather forecaster Whitney Southwick. “It’s heading our way.”

A cold front will settle through the weekend, bringing strong mountain and desert winds plus moderate rain throughout Southern California, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a good chance the county could see an hour or two of heavier rain and wind this afternoon, which could influence the workday commute.

“Two weeks of dry weather means the roads will be extra slick,” Southwick said.

All told, the storm series will likely last well into next week with the heaviest precipitation coming in the third storm.
