Teens Arrested After Scuffle in 7-Eleven

One suspect allegedly used skateboard to assault clerk

Two teenagers were arrested in National City early Saturday morning after they became violent during an attempted 7-Eleven robbery.

The teens entered the store on 24th and Highland Ave. in the early morning hours to buy chips, according to an official with the National City Police Department.

The fight erupted after the store clerk noticed the boys had been stealing additional items from the store. The clerk jumped over the counter and attempted to retrieve the items. The clerk was assisted by another store employee.

The teens attempted to flee the store, slamming the glass door in the clerk's face. The impact caused minor injuries to the clerk.

Outside the store, an off-duty guard and a delivery man chased the teens. One of the boys began swinging his skateboard at the two.

The guard was able to place handcuffs on the two teens until police arrived. One of the boys was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The teens face charges of petty theft. The teen who used his skateboard also faces an assault with a deadly weapon charge, authorities said.
