Fallbrook Teen's Death a ‘Wake Up Call' to Friends

15-year-old boy was found unresponsive Saturday night

Authorities say a Fallbrook teen took several prescription pills before passing out and later dying Saturday.

Deputies responded to a home on the 1200-block of Old Stage Road at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, where a 15-year-old boy was unresponsive and not breathing.

Medics began CPR, but the boy was pronounced dead shortly after.

Investigators determined Monday that the boy told a friend he had taken 3 to 4 prescription pills but did not what they were.

The teen has not been officially identified by the medical examiner, but school officials and friends told NBC 7 San Diego that his name is Martin Campos.

Campos was a sophomore at Fallbrook High School, where friends said he played football. He also played rugby in Fallbrook for a local youth team.

The principal of the school told NBC 7 he was well-known and well-liked.

Monday was the first day back to school from the holiday break, and many students and teachers were shocked to return to school with this tragic news.

"I remember sitting there and talking to him," said classmate Alex Mangos. "And to think that he’s gone…it wakes you up. It’s a reality check. Someone could be there one day and the next day they’re gone."

Authorities are not currently releasing any further details. They do tell us it remains unclear where the teen got the pills or whether they contributed to his death. An autopsy is pending.
