Teachers are arguably some of the greatest unsung heroes of society. San Diego Unified School District doesn’t allow them to go unnoticed though, and three of their own will be receiving awards.
SDUSD’s 2009 Teachers of the Year and will be celebrated at Sherman Elementary School, Tuesday May 5 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Fourth grade teacher Bill Freeman, middle school science teacher Michael Crawford and French and Drama teacher Philippe Poncey are the recipients of the prestigious award.
“Each one has affected their students’ lives in a different way and has helped them along their road to becoming a productive adult,” said District Superintendent Dr. Terry Grier in a press release. “These three are outstanding examples of the talented and dedicated professionals we have in the San Diego Unified School District.”
Also to be honored at the event will be 140 school-site Teachers of the Year, the latest class of National Board Certified Teachers and the Future Educator Scholars entering the profession.
SDUSD Teachers of the Year and runners-up are eligible to apply for San Diego County Teacher of the Year and then on to the National Teacher of the Year.
