Teacher in Child Porn Case Attempts Suicide

Timothy Hensley works at Bell Middle School and was once named "Teacher of the Year"

The San Diego middle school teacher who faces charges of possessing child pornography tried to kill himself an official confirmed Friday.

Timothy Hensley, 39, was found by his cellmate at the downtown jail near the federal courthouse Monday according to Deputy U.S. Marshal Omar Castillo.  He was transported to a hospital.

Castillo said Hensley will recover and was still in custody.

Hensley was placed on administrative leave from his position at Bell Middle School after his Jan. 15 arrest.

ICE agents searching Hensley's North Park apartment said they found pornographic images of children on computer discs in his home.

The discs had images and videos of minors as young as 5-years-old in sexually explicit conduct according to court documents.

Hensley has been working as an 8th grade science teacher at the school since August 2005. He was also named the 2009-2010 "Teacher of the Year."
