TRACK Trails Opened at Guajome Regional Park

When reaching certain milestones along the way, young explorers win nature-related prizes including backpacks and bandanas.

County of San Diego Parks and Recreation hosted a grand opening of TRACK Trails at Guajome Regional Park in Oceanside on Friday.

TRACK Trails is a program that lets kids and their families take self-guided tours at parks and earn prizes for tracking their adventures in an online nature journal either by a smartphone from the trail or on a computer after returning home.

Guajome Regional Park now offers nearly one mile of education-based scavenger hunts that lead kids to the pond, along the marsh, and beneath canopies of old-growth heritage trees to identify birds and other critters that sit beneath the Pacific Flyway.

When reaching certain milestones along the way, young explorers win nature-related prizes including backpacks and bandanas.

The TRACK Trails program is part of the national Kids in Parks campaign designed to help children find fun ways to explore the natural beauty of parks.

The system features kiosks on the trail along with brochures on turning an ordinary hike into an adventure.

TRACK Trails now exists at seven San Diego County Parks: Guajome Regional Park, Lake Morena County Park, Lindo Lake County Park, Louis A. Stelzer County Park, San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve and San Dieguito County Park. Felicita County Park in Escondido also opened TRACK Trails this month.
