Suspects Throw Rocks at Police Car

Several other vehicles were also struck by the rocks

Officials searched for a suspect or suspects accused of throwing rocks at a San Diego Police Department car and several other vehicles in Lakeside Thursday night.

According to deputies, an SDPD K-9 officer was near El Capitan High School at around 7:40 p.m. when he reported rocks being thrown at his car window from an unknown location.

Officials said several other drivers in the area reported suspects throwing rocks at their vehicles in the 10600 block of Ashwood Street.

Sheriff’s deputies, San Diego police officers and California Highway Patrol officers all responded to the scene and began immediately searching for the suspects on the ground.

The Sheriff’s Department ASTREA helicopter also assisted in the search by air.

No injuries were reported, though CHP officials said at least four cars were hit by the rocks. The SDPD vehicle and one other car sustained minor damage.

Officials temporarily shut down Ashwood Street as they scoured the area for the suspects, who were not immediately located.

By 8:45 p.m., authorities were clearing the scene.
