Suspect Robs Clairemont AT&T Store Armed With Weapon: SDPD

A suspect walked into an AT&T store in Kearny Mesa, armed with a weapon, and demanded merchandise, San Diego Police (SDPD) said.

The armed robbery happened at 7:35 p.m. Saturday on the 8000 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, police said.

"Came in and demanded cell phones and computerized products and fled on foot" Sgt. Jeff Nichols told NBC 7.

The suspect walked into the store and approached an employee, lifting his shirt to show a gun, police said. He then demanded iPhones. It is unclear how many he took.

The man had a duffle bag and grabbed some phones, shoving them into his bag and leaving the store in an unknown direction, police said.

Some people at the strip mall said they saw the suspect beforehand and he seemed out of place.

"We were going in here for dinner right next door and as we were waiting...there was just someone going from car to car in this exact area in front of this AT&T store," Ken Nakanote said. "Its terrible to have someone go in and put someone else's life at risk for an iPad or whatever it is."

Police lifted prints off of the front door and said there's surveillance video that could help identify the suspect.

He is described as a man in his 20s approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and 180 pounds heavy. He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie, jeans and had a black handgun.

SDPD detectives are investigating.

No further information was immediately available.
