Suspected DUI Drivers Survived Major Crash

Man stopped his car in the middle of I-5 to fall asleep, CHP says

Two people suspected of driving under the influence were arrested after surviving a crash near Sea World Drive early Friday morning.

CHP officials say a 29-year-old man stopped his car in the middle of the I-5 and fell asleep.
It didn't take long before another vehicle smashed into the stopped car, sending it spinning into the center divide.

The oncoming car flipped over upside down.

More than a dozen witnesses to the crash pulled over and helped pull a driver in his early 20s and his female passenger from the overturned wreckage.

The woman was not injured. Both drivers were treated by paramedics and incredibly transported to the hospital with only minor injuries.

The CHP says the drivers of both vehicles appeared to be under the influence of alcohol -- and will be arrested.

They were both apparently coming from downtown.
