Suspected DUI Driver Leads Police on High-Speed Pursuit

The pursuit started in Bay Park and lasted more than 30 minutes

A suspected DUI driver led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed pursuit around San Diego early Saturday morning.

According to CHP officials, the pursuit began around 2:10 a.m. at Tecolote Avenue and Morena Boulevard in Bay Park when officers tried to pull over a suspected drunk driver in a Honda Civic.

Instead of stopping, the driver of the Honda fled and a high-speed police pursuit ensued.

Officials said the pursuit lasted more than 30 minutes across multiple highways and hit speeds of up to 100 mph.

A San Diego Police Department helicopter also assisted in the pursuit.

The driver led police onto Interstate 5, south on State Route 163, west on Interstate 8 and then east on State Route 52 to northbound Interstate 805 before coming to a stop at Del Dios Highway and Camino De Estrellas, CHP said.

The driver was arrested for felony evasion and on suspicion of driving under the influence. Officials said there was also a male passenger inside the vehicle.
