Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder in Riverside in Child Abduction

Jose Wilson Rojas Guzman, 30, is being held on $1 million bail.

A Riverside man who rented a room in the home of a 9-year-old girl who was kidnapped and assaulted has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and sexual assault, police said.

Jose Wilson Rojas Guzman, 30,  was booked into the Riverside county jail on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping with injury, aggravated child sexual assault.  He is being held on $1 million bail.

A DNA match led police to arrest Guzman Monday evening, according to Lt. Guy Toussaint with the Riverside Police Dept. Detectives were hoping that DNA would provide a break in the case.

Guzman rented a room at the home the victim shared with her mother and siblings and may have met the mother while she was working as a bartender at a Riverside bar, Toussaint said.

Guzman was detained and questioned by investigators on May 9 in connection with the incident.  After questioning Guzman was held for an immigration violation and Riverside detectives obtained a warrant for Gusman's DNA. Evidence matched that of the victim's.

The girl was abducted either late Saturday May 7 or early the following morning while her mother was at work. She had left her 12-year-old son in charge of a 3-year-old sister and the 9-year-old. The girl was taken from her home and then abandoned several miles away.

The child was released from the hospital and returned home Tuesday, police said.
