Man Shot at Least 6 Times in Downtown Drive-By

San Diego police are looking for the car involved in a drive-by shooting Tuesday night.

The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. on the corner of Broadway and 9th Avenue downtown.

According to San Diego police, the 24-year-old man was shot at least six times.

“He’s got upward of eight holes in him,” Field Lt. Paul Phillips said. “To be hit that many times, it’s obviously very serious.”

Phillips said the victim had some kind of exchange with a person inside a car. Then, someone in the car started shooting.

Police are now looking for an older model black sedan with many bumper stickers. Witnesses last saw the car going east on Broadway.

The victim was transported to the hospital with a broken arm and other injuries. He was in surgery Tuesday night.

Police shut down Broadway between 8th and 10th Avenues and part of 9th Avenue during the incident.

San Diego police are trying to obtain surveillance video from nearby businesses.

“We’re not sure why this happened,” Phillips said. “Right now, it appears to be random, but we’ve got detective that have arrived and are interviewing anybody that saw anything.”
