Suspect Shines Laser at Sheriff's Helicopter

Deputies identified suspect in 4S Ranch neighborhood

Deputies believe a man in 4S Ranch was responsible for shining a laser at one of the Sheriff's Department's helicopters Tuesday night.

The ASTREA helicopter was flying over 4S Ranch, an unincorporated area of San Diego, at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night when a man pointed a laser light at the crew.

Lasers have the ability to permanently injure pilots, and can potentially cause loss of control of the helicopter.

The pilots in the helicopter told Poway deputies where they saw the laser coming from, at a house in the 16000 block of Dove Canyon Rd.

Deputies confirmed this was the correct location with the ASTREA pilots. They contacted the suspect, who fit the description that the ASTREA crew observed.

The District Attorney's office may press felony charges against the suspect, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.
