Surf Air Expands Service to Carlsbad

Surf Air, a private-membership airline using small aircraft, plans to begin service to McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad on Nov. 18.

Officials of the Santa Monica-based carrier said Carlsbad service will provide non-stop access to San Carlos and Santa Barbara, with connecting service to the Truckee airport near Lake Tahoe.

Surf Air is also expanding into Oakland on Dec. 15, with a January expansion into Hawthorne, with connecting flights to Oakland and Las Vegas. Flight schedules and other information are at surfair.com.

Surf Air officials said Carlsbad and Oakland were added based on high current and potential member demand, with more than 100 deposits already placed for membership in those regions and relatively limited service currently offered by other carriers to those markets.

The San Diego-Carlsbad metro region was the largest population center in California that was not previously served by Surf Air. Launched in 2013, Surf Air provides flights to members who pay a monthly fee starting at $1,750 for unlimited access to private flights on executive aircraft departing from private terminals.

Officials said the new flight services coincide with the delivery of the first three new Pilatus PC-12NG aircraft, part of a recent order of 65 aircraft to be delivered over the next five years.
