Student Sexually Assaulted at Grossmont College: Police

A female Grossmont College student was reportedly sexually assaulted Tuesday evening in the school’s parking lot, El Cajon police confirmed.

The reported incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m. when a male suspect approached the unidentified victim as she entered her vehicle after class, police said.

No other details, including the exact location on campus, were made available.

A person who was not the victim reported the crime to the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District (GCCD) Public Safety office, which notified El Cajon police.

“We’ve been working with (the victim) to try to identify exactly what happened,”
Lt. Mark Coit said.

The GCCD office sent a mass email to students, faculty and staff Thursday, alerting them about the incident and offering suggestions on how to increase campus safety.

Coit advised people during a Thursday media conference to not be preoccupied when traveling, pay attention to their surroundings, park in lighted areas and not walk in parking lots alone.

“Remain vigilant, keep an eye on what’s around you,” Coit said, “and if you see anything suspicious, give us a holler.”
