Stuck Truck Needs Tow

A fire truck heading back from a call dropped into a trench, damaging the truck and causing a headache for the crew.

Around 11 p.m. Monday on Alvarado Road near College Avenue, the 70,000 lb fire truck fell some two-feet into a ditch after metal plates it was traveling over gave way.

No one was hurt. It took crews several hours to free the truck.

The truck was covering for Fire Engine 10, which has been browned out for several days, according to firefighters.

Fire officials say they will bring in a backup truck to serve the fire station while damages to the $900,000 truck are assessed.
