Storm Brings Snow, Hail

A wintry storm brought rain, strong winds and snow to San Diego County on the first day of spring.

As of Monday morning, San Diego County Department of Public Works reported three inches of snow on Sunrise Highway. Chains were required for travelers there.

Laguna Mountain Lodge posted images of snow to their Facebook page around 8:30 a.m. Monday reporting six inches of snow on the ground and fair conditions.

Snow fell at the 4500' level on Palomar Mountain overnight, according to the county. The county reported as of 9:30 a.m., chains are required for travelers there also.

The California Highway Patrol reports heavy snow along State Route 94 east of Campo. Officers say the snow covers the freeway to Crestwood and advise travelers to hold off driving in the area if possible.

The storm dropped so much hail in Solana Beach around 10 a.m. that several users grabbed their phones and captured images and video.
