An English bulldog puppy that was stolen from a San Marcos doggy daycare has been returned safe and sound to his owners.
The 5-month-old dog, Schroeder, went missing on March 19 when he escaped under a fence at his owners’ San Marcos home.
He was spotted strolling on San Marcos Boulevard, so a passer-by took him to doggy daycare Dogtopia next door for safe keeping.
About half an hour later, a man walked into the daycare and picked up Schroeder. Unfortunately, that man was not his true owner.
The suspect was caught on security camera walking away with the puppy, so Crime Stoppers released a photo of him, which quickly made its way around San Diego County.
On Wednesday, owners Michelle and MariaElena Hinojos raised a reward for Schroeder's safe return to $2,000.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said they believe the high-profile attention led an anonymous man to bring Schroeder back to his parents in the 900 block of West San Marcos Blvd. around 3 p.m. Thursday.

A veterinarian gave Schroeder a clean bill of health after he came home.
The investigation continues to find out who took Schroeder in the first place. The purebred English bulldog cost $4,000.
