Spring Snow

More than a foot of snow fell overnight in the mountains east of San Diego as a wintry storm brought icy conditions and cold temperatures to the county on these first days of spring.

The storm that arrived with strong winds Sunday night and dumped hail over parts of the North County Monday is not over yet according to forecaster Whitney Southwick.

The folks at the Laguna Mountain Lodge report 14 inches of snow on the ground with fair road conditions.

Students in Julian schools got to sleep in Tuesday as the schools got a late start. Buses are scheduled to start running at 9:30 a.m. instead of the usual 8 a.m.

Rain fell during the Tuesday morning commute along Interstate 15.

Monday rain totals ranged from .92 at Lindbergh Field to 1.8 inches in the East County according to Southwick.

The National Weather Service said the chance of more precipitation Tuesday is about 20 percent with another round of rain arriving to San Diego Wednesday night.

Southwick expects the region to see two more storm systems by the time the week is over.
