Southwestern President Steps Down

Dr. Raj Chopra has resigned

The president at Southwestern College has resigned, 20 months before the end of his contract.

The resignation of Raj Chopra, Ph.D. is effective immediately. Campus officials are not saying why he's leaving but there's been a recent uproar over teacher layoffs and cuts in class sizes.

Chopra's resignation will allow the new governing board to select a new leader when it's seated next month.

Southwestern campus vice-presidents will fill in as acting president on a rotating, day-to-day basis until the position is filled.
