Social Media Serves As Brides' New Wedding Planner

Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest key in planning nuptials

The wedding planner, or at least the talking, walking, breathing kind? So 20th century.

Social media like Facebook and Pinterest are increasingly serving as brides' wedding planners, according to Mashable. The Web site conducted a survey, and found one in 10 brides are telling their Facebook friends about engagements prior to telling family via the telephone or other means -- within minutes, that is. One in three brides update their statuses within hours, and another 25 percent update the next day, Mashable reported.

And it goes on. According to TheKnot.com -- which is in the business of making sure brides use Web 2.0 functions with their weddings -- brides are "using the rise of social media as they plan."

"They are using social every step of the way, turning to sites such as Facebook and Pinterest to plan their wedding, share ideas and get recommendations from other brides to be," according to Mashable. Half of brides surveyed used Twitter or Facebook to share progress updates or registry info.
